Why You Should Maintain Your Brakes
Posted August 8, 2009 – 5:47 pm in: AutosOne of the things taken for granted in this world is driving a car. It has become routine and for some people a mindless activity. You see people doing all kinds of things like doing makeup, reading, or talking on the phone, etc. while driving.
But if your put some thought into it, you will realize that your life is on the line everytime you step into a car. Whether it is someone else's fault or yours, accidents do happen.
One cause of accidents, although seldom does it happen, is brakes failing.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle. Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind. I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.
Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight. But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on. Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, your's and your family's life and safety depends on it.
With that being the case, it will be relatively easy to maintain your brakes. You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.
Either way, the brake fluid level and the brake pad conditions are the two main things to look at.If you are vigilant in keeping these two points maintained, your brakes will be safe.
When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level. It is usually marked and has a 'min' line and a 'max' line.Make sure that the fluids are not below the 'min' line and you will not have any problems.
Also be sure that you see that the brake fluid is yellow in color and clear. If it is not, you will have to flush the brakes and replace it with new fluid.
Brake fluids are easy maintenance. The more difficult part will be the brake pads. For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.
Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.
If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.
With your safety and your passenger's safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if need be, get your brakes fixed.
Following these 2 maintenance steps will keep your car safe for every driving occasion.
